How Much & What’s Included?

I offer three excursion options. Ask if you have special needs or requests.

8 Hour Excursion: Available most of the year*.  $1200 US Funds. (With extremely short days, this option is not available in December and January)
6 Hour Excursion: Available all year $950 US Funds (Typically 6am-1pm or 1pm to 8pm in the summer/fall)**
4 Hour Excursion: Available all year $675 US Funds (Typically 6am-10am or 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the summer/fall).* Please note: The 4 hour excursions are intended as a “second day” trip for a client that has already taken either an 8 hour or 6 hour trip, or for a pro photographer just wanting a quick tour of the valley. This short trip does not give me much instructional time, especially considering the drive time to and from many of the areas.)

*Spouse/Close Relative/Close Friend: Even though my tours are described as One-On-One Photo Excursions, I am willing to take an additional person at NO EXTRA COST. We establish “the primary client”, and that person is responsible to keeping the other person “happy”. In other words, I don’t like to have one person unhappy because the person felt we left too soon or stayed too long. Quite honestly, this hasn’t been a problem! I have plenty of room for extra tripods and camera bags for the second person.

Quick Meal on 6 or 8 hour Excursions. I allow an extra hour for lunch. Snacks and beverages are also included. For the 4 hour Excursion, I will include snacks and beverages.

Park Entrance Fees: If we go through any of the Grand Teton National Park entrance stations, you will be responsible for your entry fee. If you already have a pass, bring it with you! If you are 62 or over, you can purchase a Senior Lifetime Pass for $80!

I will meet you at the Visitor’s Center on North Cache at an agreed upon time and bring you back at the end of the trip. Per GTNP Regulations: The services authorized must originate and terminate outside of the park.

Nuts & Bolts Excursion Information

The sections below are included for anyone serious about booking a trip with me.

750line

What You Need: Camera, Tripod, Lenses, Etc.

  • DSLR Camera : I am familiar with Nikon DSLR cameras, but Canon DSLR camera will have almost identical features. Bring your manual, just in case!
  • Tripod and Head: The sturdier the better.
  • Suggested Lenses: 24-70mm or similar: 70-200mm or similar: or a 28-300mm or similar.
  • Sufficient supply of charged batteries and empty (formatted) data cards. I will be suggesting you shoot in RAW + JPG, so your cards will fill much faster if you normally shoot in only JPG.
  • Optional: Graduated Neutral Density Filter
  • Optional: Polarizing Filter
  • Optional: Shutter Release
  • You DON’T NEED long telephoto lenses, but bring them if you have them. I will have a Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD Lens available for use for Nikon DSLR photographers.
  • For night time photography, you need a lens in the 14-24mm range, F/2.8 or faster
  • I carry a Personal Items insurance policy on my equipment (sometimes called an Inland Marine policy). You might consider adding it for your equipment.
  • Boots and long pants: I can adjust a trip based on skill level, equipment and a person’s mobility.  Thigh high sagebrush can be hard on someone wearing shorts and sandals. Bring a light rain coat and appropriate warm weather clothing for the season. Even in the summer, it can be near, or below, freezing at sunrise, yet warm up to the mid-90s in the day time.  I carry a pair of Muck Boots with me most of the time if it looks like I need to work near water or boggy areas. Depending on your list of objectives, I suggest bringing a pair, too.

Pre-Excursion Questionnaire & Release

As soon as you book a trip, I’ll send you a pre-excursion questionnaire and ask you to give me a few trip objectives and goals. I’ll ask you to give me an idea of your skill level and a list of your bodies and lenses. All of those will help me tailor a plan for your excursion. The email will also include an “Acknowledgement of Risk” form which will need to be signed before we take off.

Preparation at Your End

You’ll definitely want to have your batteries charged and cards formatted and ready. I’d suggest having your sensor cleaned if you don’t know how to do it. You’ll need to come to Jackson Hole with the proper apparel for the season. I am prepared to help a photographer with a DSLR of about any level, but honestly, you’ll get the most bang for your buck if you take a class at a local art center, photo shop, or junior college and have a fairly good working knowledge of your camera. Definitely, bring your manual! I have Nikon gear, but a Canon shooter should have very similar commands on their camera gear.

Firearms, Alcohol & Tobacco Policy

No Smoking – No Firearms – No Alcohol in the vehicle at any time.

Weather, and conditions out of my control, can affect fulfilling some pre-excursion objectives, but in all cases, I will make an honest effort to fulfill them. Cancellations due to extended bad weather will result if a full refund.
  • Cancellations: For cancellations two weeks or more prior to the date of the excursion, you will receive a refund of the registration fee less a $200 booking fee. Cancellations less than 14 calendar days prior will receive a 50% refund. There are no exceptions to the cancellation policy.
  • If Things are Not a Good Fit: I will be trying to assure a maximum value for your investment by meeting or exceeding expectations and objectives defined in your pre-excursion questionnaire. If it appears to me things are not a good fit for a one-on-one photo excursion, I will let you know immediately and refund your deposit. The final decision will rest with me.
